Review: When I saw a chance to review one of Mary Calmes books, I latched onto that opportunity and went with it. I’ve read her work before and I loved it, and Parting Shot is no exception. This is book 7 in the A Matter of Time series. I didn’t have a hard time following this story, so I don’t think having to read the other books is necessary, just more books to read and obsess over.
This is a gay M/M romance, just in case that’s not the readers’ choice in romantic fiction.
Aaron and Duncan remind me of Eve and Rourke by JD Robb and Ric and Davin by Jessie Gin. Their relationships are similar; The wealthy billionaire who wants someone who wants them for who they are, not because of their wealth, connections, or any freebies anyone can get from them. They want the man underneath all the wealth and power and his love and devotion. Even though those aspects of these stories are similar, Parting Shot is not a cookie cutter romance. The story moved fast, it was funny, and it entertained me, which to me is very important.
Aaron and Duncan are both not looking for love or a relationship. They were both happy with one night stands as their careers aren’t conducive to being out of the closet. However, when they meet and begin to want to be serious with each other, they are willing to come out and make their relationship known to the people in their lives. I loved that they were willing to do that for themselves as well as each other. It’s important to be who you are and not be ashamed of who you love. It’s hard to do and I understand that. If it’s possible, and you’re willing, I say go for it.
Duncan is sharp, funny, humble, and just too adorable for words. Aaron is funny, arrogant at times, very vulnerable and he’s just too adorable for words too. Together, oh MAN!!! (Pun intended). They tore the pages up with their emotions, passions, words, and feelings. Not to mention when they got together physically, oooh, the reader better get a fan.
I love it when a book can give me the feels, and this one did it. Check this book out and give it a try, I think the reader will like it.
